About
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes life has become overwhelming. Sometimes relationships are strained, anxiety has taken hold, or past experiences continue to shape the present. Sometimes there isn't a clear problem at all — only a growing sense that life could be understood or lived differently.
Whatever brings you to therapy, my first priority is to understand your experience rather than rushing to explain or change it.
Over the past decade, I have worked in specialist public mental health services and private practice, supporting children, adolescents, adults and families experiencing complex, severe and enduring mental health challenges. This has included working alongside people experiencing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, psychosis, trauma and significant life challenges. These experiences have reinforced a simple belief: people are always more than the difficulties they face.
My work is grounded in Systemic Family Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", I am interested in understanding the relationships, experiences and stories that have shaped your life, and how these continue to influence the way you understand yourself and others.
As we begin to understand these relationships more clearly, people often notice aspects of themselves, their relationships and the challenges they face that may have previously gone unseen. From here, new possibilities can emerge.
Clients often tell me they appreciate that our conversations feel calm, genuine and collaborative. I don't believe there are stories too complicated, confronting or shameful to be spoken about. Therapy should be a place where every part of your experience can be approached with curiosity and respect. And, whenever we can, I think there should be room for humour too.
Whether we work together for a handful of sessions or over a longer period, my hope is that you leave with a deeper understanding of yourself, a richer appreciation of the relationships and experiences that have shaped your life, and a growing awareness that new things become possible.
